Do you have a thrift store nearby? I like to buy flat sheets and use them for my muslins. I also watch yard sales thru the summer, many times I can get a sheet for .25 or a set for a 1.00, I get quite a few muslins for that price.

Ikea has inexpensive muslin like fabric, if you have one of those near you. I think it's called bomull

My nearest Walmart has cotton muslin in at least a couple of weights.

Big 4 Pattern size 12, RTW bottom: 6, RTW jacket 8, RTW top (no size fits me well!)
Measurements: 34 HB/36 FB (34C bra)/27.5/36 (and working hard to keep it that way.)
Machines: Sewing: Elna 760, vintage Kenmore Model 33 (1967), Janome Gem Gold 3, Singer Model 99, Singer 221/Featherweight. Sergers: Babylock Imagine and Babylock Enlighten. Embroidery Only: Janome 300E. Embroidery/Sewing Combo: Brother Dream machine. Coverstitch: Babylock BLCS. Straight Stitch: Janome 1600P.

If you think your sewing is better than everyone else's around here, get out of my way b****. I hate sewing snobs.

Thanks. I am always on the lookout here too. Like the idea of my old sheets with holes and stains. I have also learned to keep an eye on fabric store sales as far as type (cotton, knit) not pattern, sometimes less than $2yd. I also search Goodwill for oversize clothes. For $1-2 I can cut my size from a larger size garment, again just match the fabric in garments being bundled on bargain days. Craigslist also is good in larger metro areas. Folks sell estate fabric and garments at rock bottom/OBO.

I second the idea of cheap sheets from the thrift store. If you don't have a thrift nearby, sometimes Wal-Mart will have some super cheap flat sheets.

I like actual muslin so I can mark on it if need be; I buy a bolt at Joann's with one of the 40% coupons every so often.
