Back when I worked at a local haunted attraction part of my costume was a "German overcoat" It was a single shoulder (the right one had a seam) cape like thingy that had a high collar, the whole thing was button up. and the collar had a flap that went right to left then a "strap" thingy that went through a belt loop style loop. Does any one have any idea what this article of clothing was/is and if i can find a pattern? The closest I could find so far was a US Military style cape/coat. Thanks for your time and any help.

I've searched through types of WWII greatcoats, and I did not find a style with all those features.

The Inverness Coat of Sherlock Holmes had a full capelet and no military straps.

No joy in the Russian outfits of WWI, either.

I wonder if your 'German overcoat' may have been a costumer's theatrical creation?

I posted this question on a group I'm in and was given the answer of maybe a swordsman's cloak..... But when I looked the pics weren't right. most cloaks/ capes I find are double shoulder, this one hung on the right shoulder and kinda wrapped on the left. I may just have to make one from memory.....

Would it be something like the pelisse that an officer in the hussars wore over his dolman? The pelisse was a fur trimmed coat usually worn over one shoulder with the sleeves left hanging and looked like a short cape.

I have a picture but don't seem to be able to attach it

Hi Ariana,
I am working on the Corset top version C of the Butterick 4131 and I am having a hard time matching up the side fronts to the front of the bodice. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I am trying to join the side pieces #1 to the front (which is the middle section) # 5. I can't figure out why the top part after the notch doesn't line up. I hope my question makes sense. Please help. You are the only one that has reviewed this pattern. I will be needing it for a formal function on Nov 2. Thanks for your help
