Date: 10/24/12 6:26 PM I was told you could only use a Bernina USB stick with your emnbroidery module.
Anyone know if that is true?

Date: 10/24/12 7:56 PM I only use the Bernina stick, and only put a few files at a time on it. I have a 730, so if it has too many designs, it's slow bringing them into the machine. I have heard that Sandisk flash drives work, as long as they are not large flash drives. And you may want to get some of the extra software off of it. I remember the yahoo group talking about this for a while, and that was the general consensus.
I think they specified no larger than 1GB. Those can still be found I think. There are other brands that work too. You might want to check that group for a better answer though! ------ Bernina 730E, 530, and 350PE

Date: 10/24/12 8:22 PM I don't know for sure about for 730 model but for the Bernina 830 after a software update released sometimes early last year a small non Bernina stick could be used. The non Bernina stick had to be formatted in the Bernina software as it creates folders on the stick. Designs are than saved through software and machine can read them. ------ Janome10001, Babylock ESG3, Brother ULT 2001, White 634D serger, Pfaff 1472, Singer featherweight, Singer 14T957Dc, Bernina FunLock 009DCC coverlock, Brother PQ1500S, Janome CP900. |

Date: 10/24/12 10:58 PM I use a non-Bernina (Toshiba) USB stick with my 580. I didn't even have to do anything to it. Just buy it and use it. Simple and less expensive. ------ Belinda. Melbourne, Australia

Date: 10/24/12 11:02 PM No, that is NOT true. However, certain USB sticks come with their own software loaded--and that software may not work with Bernina (and other sewing machines as well). In general you will be better off using a cheapie USB that has nothing extra pre-loaded. OR, I believe you can reformat the fancy USB sticks to remove the software.

I have only ever used the SanDisk USB stick. There is a U3 program on it that has to be removed. If you join the Yahoo Group BerninaLand there are instructions in the group's Files section. |

Date: 10/25/12 8:16 AM i have a 630 and I use a SanDisk Cruzer USB stick. When my dealer told me how much the Bernina USB stick was I gave her a VERY quizzical look. She said I could use a regular one if I removed some sort of software that prevented its compatibility. After some research I discovered the software that had to be removed from the SanDisk Cruzer was the U3 Launchpad software. I just googled that until I found a SanDisk utility that removed the software. This was over a year ago so I don't remember details, but this site could be helpful (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/U3-Launchpad-Removal-Tool.shtml). I love my Bernina but their pricing for accessories is egregious. |

Date: 10/25/12 8:16 AM I have about ten different sticks and, of those, there are at least six different brands. They all work just fine on my Bernina 830.
I keep a limit on the size. Most are 2G, the biggest is 4G.
I kind of prefer the Transcend and the Sandisk, they seem to be faster than the others. ------ Linda
