3 members like this. Date: 10/25/12 10:53 AM There really needs to be another size grouping for RTW.
I need a size bigger than an X-Large but smaller than a 1X.
It seems odd that there is such a difference between and x-large and a 1X. The right size can be found but it takes a lot of shopping to find it and I am not a very good shopper.
I did go to a better RTW department store and did some snoop shopping. Even tried on a few things just to check out the fit. I thought when the better RTW clothing lines graded up there might be a more gradual increase. Nope it made about the same jump that the lower end stores had done.
I suppose there isn't much of a market for the size I am looking for. ------ Ada

Date: 10/25/12 11:04 AM It's difficult when you're in the middle. Many RTW stores such as Target have XXL in their juniors sections, though. |

Date: 10/25/12 11:55 AM Some brands tend to size smaller in general, so if you find one of those, you might be able to get a 1X that is more fitting.
Or yes, a lot of places sell an XXL and not just in their juniors section. Good idea Courtney! ------ Brother Innovis 1250D

Date: 10/25/12 11:59 AM I am in the same boat as you Ada. I have never fit into Junior sizes, so the jr. XXL does not fit, but I have found some Eddie Bauer xxl does fit. THey recently re-did their sizing, and I am a bit heavier and have not bought anything from them recently, but it may be worth a try.
Most RTW thinks that 1X, 2X, 3X people have big boobs, big belly and skinny hips and legs...not me! What do people do who are really tall and even slightly larger than skinny? I have friend who is 6'tall and weighs close to what I do, (I am 5'7") with a nice shape, and well proportioned, but she needs something bigger than XL, but smaller than 1X. Glad I sew, but would love to buy clothes and feel good in them. |

Date: 10/25/12 12:49 PM My weight has yo-yo'ed a lot over the years, and I hate that no man's land that you're talking about. The best fit that I've found when I'm in that size range is a Misses' 16 in the brands that make clothing in that size. (Old Navy for cheap/casual, LOFT for slightly nicer.) New York & Co. also seem to size for a taller woman (I'm short, so their clothes have never fit me all that well) and carry a good range of clothing in that between-misses-and-plus range.

Date: 10/25/12 1:25 PM AdaH, I am in a similar "size zone" as you. I have found that Eddie Bauer ladies' t-shirts in XXL Tall fit me pretty well, even though I'm only 5'6". Target XXL tops also fit sometimes. Lane Bryant's new line of jeans is pretty good, though I alter them at the waist. You're right, we need another category! ------ A balanced diet is a cupcake in each hand. |

Date: 10/25/12 1:35 PM I'm right there with ya. I think things have gotten better in recent years, actually, in RTW. A lot of the misses lines now go out to 16 or 18, as opposed to stopping at 14 - I'm thinking of, off the top of my head, Old Navy, Ann Taylor Loft, Eddie Bauer, Target's Mossino line... I find that misses' cuts still fit me better most of the time as opposed to stuff from the plus section or from Lane Bryant or Avenue, which is invariably sized for apples and not pears. ------ I've moved! Date: 10/25/12 2:36 PM I actually really like the fit of Lane Bryant jeans with the different waist size options.
DH and I started a low-carb eating plan a few days ago, so I hope to be out of plus sizes in a few months. Lane Bryant jeans will be the one thing that I miss about being this size--I'm glad they go down to a size 14. ------ --Michelle

Date: 10/25/12 3:11 PM I am an apple, so most of LB's stuff fits me right. I do like that the shoulder on their tops aren't sized for a man. They are my first stop, and Chicos to an extent. Their size 2 is okay usually. I'm also on that cusp. I HATE when I try on an XL and it doesn't fit. I know better than to even try the 1X. It will swallow me.

Date: 10/25/12 3:16 PM Some really good ideas here. I never shop at Target because their stuff never fit me. Maybe I shoud give them another try.
I am glad so many members posted with places I can try. I stoped ordering on line because nothing ever fit and then I had the hassel of sending the stuff back.
I didn't know about junior XXL. I will check that out.
CJ Banks will sometimes fit in the XL but are usually a little short which is odd since I am short in the trunk. Their pants never fit.
