I have a used Bernina Artista 180 (bought recently) on which I recently broke a needle. I've tried putting a new needle in but it won't stay put. I tighten the screw as tight as it goes but the needle still falls out. Any suggestions?

Do you have a screwdriver to tighten it with?

This is going to sound dumb...

But are you sure you are poking it into the right hole?

I had this happen for the first time just last week with my Bernina.

Are you certainly you removed all of the old needle? Could any of the needle shank be left up in the holder? I am sure you have checked that, but just wondered...since we are troubleshooting.

Well that was a perfectly good can of soda wasted...

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm pretty sure there isn't any part of the old needle in the holder but I'll check. I'll also check to be sure I'm putting the needle where it's supposed to go. There isn't a slit for a screwdriver and I've tightened the screw as much as possible. Thanks for all the ideas though :)

In some of the machine now days have little cutter key's in them.
I had one in my pfaff that broke. I had to replace the whole holder.
I also did some looking. Could it be a creaked needle bar.
Some of the ladies commented that it should cost about 80. to replace it. I just would call a bernina dealer and see what they have to say.
On the sight some of them said it was a common problem for this machine.
I would call the dealer he, she could quote you a price to replace it.

Okay, Lynn, that's enough...

Seriously, I finally figured out that I had to LOOSEN that screw about 6 turns before the hole was large enough to put the needle in. I'd been trying to put it in someplace toward the back of the correct spot.

(And now I'm blushing... And it's all your fault, Lynn Rowe...)
