Looks like you folks need to batten down the hatches again. I've ceased believing in those early 'no problems expected' forecasts.

Be safe.

We are used to the hype and "no show" of most of these predictions. Maybe on Sunday we can make a better prediction! But today everyone will be at the grocery stores stocking up on bread and milk!

I'm stocking up on batteries and water today. When we lose power, it's usually for days. Unfortunately, we don't have a generator and our house is all electric with well and septic. At least our septic is gravity fed and not sandmound. The sandmounds require an electric pump or else too mush flushing by adding buckets of water will eventually come right back at you. Too gross too ponder.

Now if I had a treadle, things wouldn't be so bad...

Big 4 Pattern size 12, RTW bottom: 6, RTW jacket 8, RTW top (no size fits me well!)
Measurements: 34 HB/36 FB (34C bra)/27.5/36 (and working hard to keep it that way.)
Machines: Sewing (Janome Memory Craft 3000 and Kenmore 158 Series machine), Serger (Babylock Imagine), Embroidery (Janome 300E)

If you think your sewing is better than everyone else's around here, get out of my way b****. I hate sewing snobs.

That along with slightly longer daylight hours would make losing power almost a boon! Well, maybe not that, but it does quiet and slow things down.

It's too bad you can't plan power outages. My great fear is to be out for several days when it's bitterly cold. The furnace starter is electrical though that's not the main fuel source...

don't forget batteries, flashlights, water. I think it is very irresponsible for the newscasters and weather forecasters to call this Frankenstorm, Storm of the century etc. They are scaring everyone to death. I worried cos if our electric goes out we have a sump pump. And it's going to rain for 3 days. So they say. Last storm we had rip through here people were without electric for weeks in some cases and this is a urban area. I just hope they are wrong and it's further out to sea.

I am a meteorologist. The storm is being hyped in the media in part because the forecast models - pretty much all of them - have an exceptional storm forecast and have done so consistently for days. The exact track is still not clear, but given the sheer size of the storm, it will have a major impact on a large, heavily populated area regardless.

Around here, even a little breeze can send Pepco into a tailspin. That's probably why everyone is so worried.

Same with BGE. We also have a big tree in the back yard. We thought have having it taken down as if it falls in the right direction could seriously damage our house. But then found out the cost. Normal wind wouldn't bother it but the ground is going to be soaked.
