I accidentally drove by a high school today. I was trying to find a new sewing lounge.

It was around the lunch hour, so some of the kids were walking around the campus. It was interesting to see what they were wearing.

In one small group of girls, one girl was wearing harem pants with a very low crotch (down around her calves) like these. Another girl in the same group was wearing shiny pants like these.. I thought it was a fluke, but then I saw another girl wearing the same type of shiny pants in yellow.

They were wearing Ugg or Ugg-like boots.

Oh my...I must be getting old, because all I could do was shake my head.

I can't imagine those shiny pants being within any high school dress code, but I'm old too so who knows. Maybe there was a Halloween thing going on today.

You're not the only one shaking her head, I'm shaking mine along with you!

Neither would have been allowed when I was in HS, but I can see the Harem pants as harmless if goofy looking fun. The shiny skin-tight pants seem too overtly sexual to me for an educational environment, but maybe ok if under a dress or longer tunic. Just my opinion.

I saw quite a few of those shiny pants being worn in England & Iceland recently - made me feel like I was back in the roller disco years.

Oh my gosh, now that I think about it, they did look like roller disco pants.

I don't know about the harem pants but I just bought McCall 6173 recently. My high school days are many, many years ago yet I was thinking the sequin/glittery version was going to be cute for a dressy occasion.

Having a 16 y/o (and having BEEN 16-have you forgotten?) nothing makes me shake my head about what teens choose to wear...more often I shake my head about what they are allowed to wear! That being said, I still remember the micro-minis, or rolling up the parochial school skirt, so, while I may now think these choices are ugly, I don't necessarily think they are out of control.
And, I wish I could still fit into those shiny pants, even if I wouldn't wear them

I remember the 70's...when I had to sneak out out of the house before my father saw the purple velvet "Hot Pants" I was wearing. !
(For the younger ones here-- Hot Pants were very very short shorts, worn with pantyhose back then).

...and every time I roll my eyes at low-cut jeans, I force myself to remember when I wore low "hip-hugger" jeans...with a halter top and no bra back in the 70's! ( I was small busted, not all the girls were).

...and I was a "good girl", but a rather boring teen by some 70's "standards"...very good grades (National Merit Scholarship), didn't smoke, didn't drink, didn't get high, no wild parties, etc.

The Harem pants were the in thing when I was in highschool too. Never had them but those that did wore them with knee high boots or ballerinas. Nothing in between was possible.
The roller disco ones I remember as well but from the grown up girls (I was in primary) The disco era!
