Date: 10/28/12 9:57 PM Hi, I'm totally in love with this dress, but it's not available in my size. It's fairly simple and classic in design, and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a pattern. I especially love the belt detail.
It's made in silk, but I think it would be nice in a knit too.

Date: 10/29/12 5:19 AM For a woven, Simplicity 2473. It's recently out-of-print but it should be easy enough to find a copy. There are several on Ebay and it's also still available from Simplicity in the smaller size range. There are also a number of other (in-print) patterns that are similar but not as close - depending on what's important to you about the design (e.g. do you want the fitted skirt or is A-line fine?) and how good you are at making pattern changes.
For a knit, just take a plain sheath type dress such as Simplicity 2054 and add the band (by drawing it on where you want it on the front and back pieces, cutting up the pattern pieces and adding the seam allowance.)

Date: 10/29/12 11:53 AM Thank you for the recommendations! I actually already have S2054 too. That's a great idea to add the waist band to it! :-) I'll have to take a look for 2473. I wear a small size, so maybe I'll be able to find it.
The fabric is gorgeous. They didn't have any of the dresses in the store but there was one shirt in the same print. It's really lovely in person. I feel it's doubtful I'd find something similar, but there are plenty of other beautiful fabrics out there! |
