Trick or Treat ?! Speed and machines --

Date: 10/31/12 5:44 PM Personally, I love to sew fast and find myself wanting even more speed than the 1600spm my Grand Quilter will sew. I feel I can free motion quilt and piece with perfect results at the high speed of the GQ -- Sure - I sometimes wish it were quieter ... but,.. The question is -- what do other people think about speed? Is it a trick or a treat? ------ Drag queen quilter!

NOT as fast as your Grand Quilter, though! My 830 can do 1,1,00 SPM, but I usually run it at about 3/4 speed on my speed control. Go to the Threads site & look up the video for Manuel (he's famous for dressing Elvis & country western stars, fabulous duds)... there's this guy that embroiders for him on an industrial zigzag. Amazing.

But I've gotta have the subtle low speeds on a machine as well. The foot control on my serger recently went into warp speed and stayed there. Even if I barely touched it, zooooom. It was a bit frightening but I manged to finish my garment. It's in the tech's hands now and I'm learning just how much I miss my serger!! ------ Let's just say all modern sms are well represented in my studio.

I love that this machine stops or slows as I want it to - and i can do one stitch at a time slow - if thats what I feel like doing. I might end up with an industrial at some point. For now, Im pretty happy with this machine -- Im glad to not deal with the industrial style oil pan or other system. ------ Drag queen quilter!

I have to say that noticing that my daughter sews rather slowly was a good thing. She told me she has better control, and you know what? She is right! I tried it and it's true. BUT, when I serge seams and when I sew long seams or do some FM, I do love speed....that's one reason I wanted the Janome 6300 - speed + knee lift. Amen.
