Serger needles

My serger uses an ELx705 size which is not listed at Wawak, however, their customer service person says I can use any of their home serger needles in my machine. Organ needles sell this type at a reasonable price price in bulk. Diamond Needles, for example is one such online seller that sells them in bulk. Their description states that the EL X 705 , "This needle is made specifically for Coverstitching. It has 2 grooves, a slightly longer scarf and a light ball point." They sell them in sizes of 11/75, 12/80, 14/90 for $31.00 per hundred. There are other online sellers that sell them in smaller numbers. Check the e-sellers on PR to see where people are getting their ELX705. I would avoid any problems with your machine or stitch quality and get the right one. Discountembroiderysupply, also sells them by 10. I think that is where I got mine because I wasn't sure what I would use most often. Reason being that the company who sold me my serger said I could use regular sewing machine needles in it. After about three trips, via the mail, back to the company because it wouldn't work right, and a fourth trip to a Singer repairperson (it's a Singer machine), did I learn to use the recommended needles. ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. You can buy lots of 10,30,50 or 100. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

My dealer sold me the basic Schmetz and I had no problems. Since then the Organ EL needles have become readily available. The CS may skip or give you problems if you don't use the EL. I got a huge supply of the 80 and 90 Schemtz because I was so isolated in MT- didn't want to run out. I am still using them up and haven't had any problems. But when I do my next needle purchase I will buy the ELs just because they are recommended and available. ------ re-living my youth through sewing...

This is suitable for most medium and heavyweight fabrics. For lightweight fabrics use size 80/12, ELx705CF needles. The ELx705CF needle is a semi-ballpoint design and is suitable for knits and wovens. That being said, I have almost always used 80/12 or 90/14 Schmetz ballpoint or stretch needles in mine, and as long as I use wooly nylon as my bottom thread when coverstitching I haven't had issues with skipped stitches. ------ -- Anne http://clothingengineer.com
