I seem to be incapable of correctly taping together the pages of a pdf pattern. When I get halfway through the taping, I am always off. I try to be very careful and match up the triangles, but I think sometimes the pattern itself is off. Is there some secret to correctly getting everything to match up? I am trying to tape together Larissa from Burdastyle.com and I am ready to burst into tears
Can someone help?

Are you cutting off the page margins, or folding them under?

First of all...did your pages print out in the correct scale? Do you see the 4" square box on one of your pages?

Make sure your paper is stacked properly in the printer tray. If its feeding through even a little askew, it will mess up the alignment on the page..

The secret is patience! LOL

Tape sparingly at first, until you are sure every side that touches is lined up (2 on some pieces, 3 or 4 sides on others). I usually tape directly on the mark (triangle/diamond or circle on some brands).

However, when you have a long, straight line (grainline, fold edge, whatever, as long as it's supposed to be straight and lies across 2 or more pages), use it to double check. Take a long ruler and line it up along the pattern line. Is it straight? All the way across multiple pages? This is more important than exactly lining up triangles. Place a short piece of tape over the line.

And corners where 4 pages meet? I make sure the lines from all the sizes make sense there. Once they do, then I tape the corner.

Use short pieces of tape (or Post-It flags) so you can readjust if necessary. Sometimes just the pressure of taping down one side can throw off the other!

Once I get an entire pattern piece together, I will trace it. This does 2 things: 1) Most important it gives my mind a break, lol, and 2) if that piece shifts out of alignment later, I'm OK with it, since I already have it traced. Also I do it on my kitchen table - and it's not really big enough to lay out a whole pattern.

I wonder if I just printed out a few pieces at the time and cut a piece out, and then did that again and again if that would work? It would take more paper and more time.

The reason I asked, is that it may be easier to keep the pages aligned if the edges are folded, and securely taped. I find that taping cut edges can lead to small gaps, that over many pages, can lead to noticeable errors.

I cut along the actual cutting lines, trace that page, then cut the next one and line that up rather than even trying to tape the pieces together.
