raglan sleeve underarm is too tight

Its a simple tunic with raglan sleeves. Once I put in the elastic for the neck part it makes it too tight under my armpit. I used 5/8" SA for the underarm seam, if I use 1/4" SA how do I make the adjustment with the side seam? Not sure if this is the right way to go about it??

Date: 11/3/12 5:11 AM You can try enlarging it by reducing seam allowances, if this isn't enough a gusset could be put in to the underarm area. This might be a diamond shaped piece of fabric, the widest part being at the underarm point, tapering off down the side seam and sleeve. ------ so many patterns, clamouring to be sewn http://patternpandemonium.wordpress.com/

Sometimes the elastic guides are a bit goofy and result in way too much or way too little elastic. If it's too little elastic, and is pulling the neckline up too much, it would also pull the armpits in too much

My daughter didn't seem to have your problem, but you may prefer the neckline to be higher than she does. The elastic is likely too short and is pulling the top up. Or it could be because the elastic is attached to ribbon ties and the ties are missing? The elastic ends at the front raglan sleeve seams. BTW, I had a problem making the joins small enough to thread through the casing smoothly and had to redo the first ones. It's such a simple top, many sewists would think it could be made without instructions. I started sewing over 60 years ago, but I always read the instructions.:rolleyes: ------ Rheta
