The weekend of 10/8/12, JoAnns had 50% off its notion wall. I forgot that I wanted a ruler but did get my needles!

Does anyone know when JoAnns has its 50% sale on its notions? Or, how I can locate this info on the Internet? The folks at my local store have no idea when this sale happens - find that hard to believe but then again maybe not.

I don't shop there too much so don't know how often the notion wall is half off.

Or, a good source for this ruler?

Thanks.

afaik, the ruler is not a notion--at least by Joann's standards. I think it's a cutting tool.

Unless you absolutely require one you can run a rotary cutter next to, buy a C-thru. They're cheaper, they're more accurate, they don't break when you drop them. you want a b85 (red ink) or b85B (black ink.) for an 18"x2" ruler. $5 at an art supply or drafting house.

Actually I think the ruler is considered a notion... at least they usually are at my Joann's.

They have their 50% off sales about every 3 months or so and almost always linked with a major holiday. My guess would be, however, that with the holidays approaching you wouldn't have to wait that long. Just keep an eye on the flyer (if you don't get it in the mail, you can subscribe on their website) or look at their website for the current sales flyer in your area.

Good luck!

Yes, you are correct. There is a dritz ruler in the notions aisle for about 6 bucks and change. I don't know how accurate it is. The cutting tools and quilting sections have thick rulers, but they don't work so well for drafting because they tend to be calibrated much more coarsely. The 4 in one tool with the armscye curve, hip curve, etc is horrible for drafting, as it's miscalibrated and the grid lines tend to obstruct your view of whatever you're drawing. The curves are handy, though.

I'd second the C-thru ruler. It's fairly accurate, finely calibrated, doesn't obscure the drawing, and is light enough not to get in the way. Red markings are probably best for drawing, as you can tell the grid lines from your lines beneath. There is a variety with centimeter markings, which might come in handy, at the cost of making 90 and 45 degree angles less accurate. The 18 inch, non metric model should be available at Michael's.

Thanks for your reply - maybe there will be another one before or around Thanksgiving - if not perhaps Christmas.

I will keep my eyes open when reading the flyers. I don't believe I have ever read in my flyers an ad for 50% off on the notion wall.

My current flyer has not arrived. I live in Pennsylvania about an hour from Philadelphia. Perhaps hurricane Sandy delayed the current flyer that I viewed on JoAnns website today for my zip code. The start date was I believe 10/28/12.

You can also check the Joann's website for your flyer - you can just put in your zip code and it'll show you the current local flyer for your area.

I got the JoAnns flyer last week. It had a 50% and 60% coupon good through Nov 12th.
