Date: 11/3/12 3:44 PM I've been asked on an Italian forum if the babylock sergers have difficulty going over denim seams or over thick fleece.
(It seems that many sergers have these problems nowadays).
For those that have one of these sergers could I please ask you if this problem exists and how you eventually get your machines to work to get a good finish?

Date: 11/3/12 4:16 PM I have a babylock Evolve and it handles denim and multiple quilted layers very well. Haven't worked with fleece, so no first hand account on that, but yes to denim and thick quilted layers! And, absolutely no tension adjustments needed, either. HTH ------

Date: 11/3/12 6:39 PM OMG, you should have been here a few days ago. I was using a brocade and had 4 layers. I really wanted to serge it feeling that would give the nicest seam finish. I have an inexpensive BL (Lauren) bought years ago and it tackled my monster seam with no problem. So I'm sure your beefier model will handle just about anything! I've done layers of denim and fleece too, BTW. |

Date: 11/5/12 5:13 AM My BL evolution handles layers of thick fabrics very well- where I have problems is over seams. Fleece and knits- stretchy fabrics take some effort on my part. The feed dogs want to pull it in and of course the stretch keeps stretching until it hits the seam and then I have to push it through.
After reading all these others I am thinking it might be me. Perhaps I haven't loosened the presser foot pressure enough? I will try that next time. As for denim- I have never serged over a denim seam. I serger the pieces to prevent gray and then sew them together. ------

Date: 11/16/12 1:14 PM I'm looking at Juki 735 and Babylock 480. Does anyone have any experience on the Babylock 480? I find a ton of reviews on the Juki, but nothing on the Babylock. I am looking for a 5 thread, but I don't want to spend the money for the air threading. |
