I have been researching programs for a few weeks now. I am finding seminars on specific topics and BA & MA degrees. I even found one online dressmaking/drafting course- which seems bizarre because for me in person instruction would be crucial. I want to see and feel and interact with the techniques in the classroom.
Does anyone know of any non-degree dressmaking/tailoring/alteration programs? Not a few days of a seminar, but an actual diploma or certificate course that is accredited so that I can use my GI bill?
I would like to open my own business eventually.
Thanks.

Were you looking to stay in FL?

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

Have you looked into possible dressmaking and design classes at a community college? Here, in the Sacramento region, you can get an associate degree at American River College, I believe. I haven't been able to ate d classes there because of my job, but I understand it's very challenging.

Yes, CC was my first thought. The closest is Orlando do I would have to relocate each semester. But I don't need all the undergrad coursework. Have a BA and MS so really just want the technique. Would rather not draw that out over 4 semesters if I can get it in a shorter time frame.

The Portland Sewing link won't load. Will try plugging that into a search engine. Have family up that way.

Try contacting Kathleen Fasanella at http://fashion-incubator.com/. She is an incredible resource for pattern making, and sewing production. Her book is full on great information on the sewn product business.
