I have something that inspires more passion in me than sewing...painting! I returned to it after putting it away over 30 years ago...I don't have time for both, so painting wins....here's some examples...the first two are oils. The last is with pastel.
Neptune Beach Dunes/oil
Cumberland Island/oil
Jacksonville Beach/Sandy's approach/soft pastel

Deb, they are so wonderful and I'm amazed at your talent. It takes a lot of commitment to paint/draw/etc and I can understand your comment about putting sewing away for a time. Are you taking classes, or just picking it up again?

Those are very nice! I've been having the same problem RE music: when faced with the decision about whether I need to sew or practice, practicing tends to win.

Thank you for your kind words. I am not taking classes....just picking it up again after all those years. It's something that brings me great joy and peace and I find I can lose myself for hours when I am painting.....almost like meditation!

Wonderful work.. BUT don't sell your sewing machines anytime soon. I am also one who does many hobbies. including painting.. And I go back and forth according to my mojo .. Sometimes I feel like sewing.. sometimes I feel like paining. You can get burnt out on anything .. even things you love to do.. but you can also just feel more like sewing on somedays than painting.
I love painitng. less frustrating as if you make a mistake you can just paint right over it..
If you love to paint sooner or later you will have more pics than you have room to display them all.. so I would suggest given how wonderful your works are.. you see about reselling some at a gallery or resell shop in your area. Oils in particularly will fly right out the door. The monies from the sell can buy you more paints.. or even more fabrics..

I'm impressed! You have wonderful tallent and should persue painting. So what if you give up sewing? You gave up painting for 30 years and the tallent is still there. In another 30 years you might want to sew again.

I really enjoy quilting. I love to play with fabrics, colors and pictures. I recently discovered how much fun applique can be. As I love making pictures, landscape quilting can be challenging, but seeing the picture come to life is so rewarding.

I'm no where near ready to sell anything. I have done a total of four paintings...but I think about painting all the time, but really have no interest in sewing....I'll keep my favorite machine, but it will get moved to the closet. I recently re-introduced my best friend to sewing, so maybe she can use a lot of my sewing stuff. I did turn my dining room into a studio for my painting, and my boss at work is good friends with a gallery owner, but I have to be ready to take that step...and I'm not yet. I think I have quite a ways to go before I feel comfortable putting my work out for sale.

That last picture, the pastels, is just awe inspiring to me! I was so bogged down with all the "on a never ending treadmill of life and esp. housework" that your paintings brought me joy, even seeing it over a pc screen--imagine what it will do to people who see it in real life. I am starting to paint with friends at church, as well as at home, and find it a wonderful creative outlet. Now I am awe struck just looking at all the autumn trees and bushes and landscapes to be painted. It is hard to drive anywhere without being inspired... Thanks for that wonderful pastel.

I love the painting. Don't give away sewing items that would be too expensive to replace. As you have replaced sewing with painting, you may some time soon replace painting with sewing or painting on fabric for art garments. I have gotten into a dozen or more different directions and even though photography is a passion, I still need the relaxation of a simple sewing project on occassion.
