Date: 11/5/12 11:08 AM I am dying to make up the ubiquitous vogue 1250 and have the perfect jersey for it, but its slightly sheer. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to line a dress with a cowl. I've lined a few skirts, but never a dress. Help! |

Date: 11/6/12 0:54 AM I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will provide better advice, but here's a tutorial for lining a sleeveless dress that I've used, and it's great: http://stitchywitch.wordpress.com/2010/06/21/tutorial-lining-a-sleeveless-dress/
Vogue 1250 appears to have cut-on sleeves, so I think it could be lined in the same way a sleeveless dress would be lined. My only concern would be the extra volume a lining would add at the cowl. Maybe someone else has a suggestion that would eliminate that problem. ------ Olivia, my Pfurple Pfaff Creative Performance

Date: 11/6/12 12:14 PM If I were doing it I would probably try to have the lining start below the cowl so as not to interfere with that drape. You will have to use a knit lining and it could be attached at the side seams only...just thinking out loud here...more like an underlining. |

Date: 11/6/12 1:55 PM The other option might be to make a lining that does not drape. The drape on this dress hangs pretty low if it's not altered. You could add a lining that lays flat across the bust and raises above the lining by however much you want it to. If you chose to do that, you could just wear it sort of as a slip, and wouldn't necessarily even need to attach it. To do this, you could try tracing the pattern front piece up until about the waist (where it begins to get wider to accomodate the drapey neck), then drafting the top so that it is more close fitting. You might be able to use the back piece as a guide to do this.
