best machine for a beginner? recommendations

Not too expensive, with basic features only. Please, offer your suggestions!

Then she can add some to that if she wants to and can get the machine she wants. However, if that is not possible, or the preference is to buy the machine, I wound give the Janome HD3000 a good look over. Very basic, mechanical, and solid. It was less than $900. I took her to the shop and told the dealer our price range. She demonstrated several machines to her and and let her sew on them for herself. The Elizabeth has a scissors button and several decorative stitches. It's a good solid machine, intuitive to use... and the one she chose. Our dealer sells Bernina, Babylock and Viking. The Babylock is the one she bonded with. Jeanie ------ wife, mom, nurse, grandmother, sewing/embroidery hobby from SC with a BL Ellisimo, new BL Enterprise, Bernina 180 & 1090.

Date: 11/6/12 8:42 AM I would go with the best dealership do she can get continued support as she moves along in her seeing adventures. I have owned other brands but paired down all but my Baby Locks. The dealer support, warranty, tech knowledge, classroom offerings and machine quality are there for me. Even moving across states, I have felt that they care about me as a customer. I think it might be a fun day if she were able to set up appointments to visit the various dealers after the stress of the wedding and try out different models within a set price range. That initial bonding experience will lead her to the best one. ------ re-living my youth through sewing...
