Date: 11/5/12 9:45 PM Do any of these machines have a low bobbin warning light? I am looking at the specs and it looks like none of them do.
If no, I am very surprised that the Horizon 7700 or the Elna 740 do not have this feature.
If you have one of these machines, do you wish you had this feature (assuming none of them do)?

Date: 11/5/12 10:53 PM Both my BL Espire and Pfaff CP have the low bobbin warning, and it's very handy, especially as you can ignore the warning and thread-out if you want.
But none of my Featherweights do, nor does my Pfaff 2023, and I don't have a problem not having it on them. But they don't do embroidery; I really wouldn't want an emboridery machine without that warning!
For general sewing, I could live without the low bobbin warning, and there is an easy work-around; wind two bobbins, and use one per normal in the bobbin case, and use the other for your top thread, instead of the spool. When your top thread bobbin gets low, you'll know your bobbin thread bobbin is also low. ------

Taking a second look at these machines and wanted to make sure I understood which ones did NOT have this feature. It makes me wonder why they don't have it especially the 7700/740 Excellence.
I have one on my Pfaff QE4 and sometimes it is more trouble than it is worth. The warning lights up the screen and you can't get rid of it and continue to sew. I think I could live without it. Especially with Lynn's great tip.

What a great idea Lynn.
I dont have a low bobbin light on my Grand Quilter - I dont miss it - I guess I feel like Ive never had it b/c the Smarters was so bad.
I even had it replaced and it still never wanted to work - the amount of lint created from one bobbin would make it not want to work.

Date: 11/6/12 7:10 AM I have the low bobbing warning on my Janome 10001 but if you don't start with a full bobbin it's useless. So like the needle threader that never keeps working I don't count on it. ------

 2 members like this. The low bobbin warning is...you look through the clear plasti bobbin cover and see how much thread you have left on your clear plastc bobbin!!! ------

Date: 11/6/12 10:53 AM Ditto what some have said... for general sewing, it's no big deal to not have the low bobbin indicator. Moreover, yeah, just look through the window on the top of the needleplate. :)
If you are not doing any sort of *hands off / walk away* sewing (machine embroidery) .. there really isn't much of a need for the low bobbin indicator. If you're sewing along and run out of bobbin thread, you'll know it.  And if you're going to be doing something that is important like topstitching or something - then it's just good to check before starting that section of your work.
If a person was doing a large amount of FMQing, etc... then the loading two bobbins thing is a good idea, I guess. (I wouldn't bother to do it)
The low bobbin indicator on my EG is amazing... it stops with about 18-24 inches of thread left on the bobbin.... and automatically stops the machine as well. Like others have said, that's super important for machine embroidery because you don't get stuck having to back up very far in the program to fire up again.
Lastly, these aren't $5,000 MSRP machines, either. (You should be able to get a 740 or 7700 for about $2,000 right now because of new models coming out.)
