Steam a Seam 2 temp use If not heat set, will it wash out easily?

Used it to temporarily keep a knit tops hems in place for coverstitching which worked great, but now my concern is will this wash out and not get on other clothes in the laundry load? The tape's not fully enclosed in the bottom hem. I did not iron the hems after using the tape, as I didn't want them to be fused, - was unsure if they'd stretch afterwards. Anybody have issues with this product not washing out or was it not meant to do that? Thanks Shel

But since you got some sticking out and exposed, and not fused to any thing on one side of it,(since it sounds like you fused the other side down) I do think that makes it kind of a "laundry accident waiting to happen" in the hot clothes dryer. Because even the heat of the clothes dryer may make it soften on the exposed side, and possibly stick to anything. Like maybe some other clothes or kind of melt off on the inside metal of the basket in the clothes dyer. I don't think that is too likely to happen in just the washing machine, in water there, like on cold or even warm temp there, but much more likely in a hot clothes dryer. Maybe you can get rid of the part that is sticking out and not fused on both sides, and only on one side, especially if you did not fuse it down very much. You could try holding a hot iron with steam over it, without touching it at all, to soften it up a bit, then maybe you could pull the exposed part of it off, or even loosen it just there that way, and sort of trim it off? I have not bought any of that stuff for a very long time, but I think it was just fusible web, with that peel off sticky tape on one side of it. So the temp part of it, is just the sticky under the tape, (as to temp hold it there just while you iron) not the whole fuse-able of it at all.

Date: 11/6/12 4:33 AM Steam A Seam is not a water-soluble product. Best to press (fuse) it. The 'adhesive' qualities of the S-a-S '2' are extremely temporary. In fact, It rarely wants to adhere for me without some strong encouragement, before I can get the iron on there and fuse it. Info on Steam-a-Seam 2 If you don't want to fuse the exposed area, hopefully you can remove it. Dritz brand 'Wonder Tape is the 2-sided sticky product that is water-soluble. Dritz Wonder Tape info

I'll trim what I can and then wash by itself a time or two to see what happens. I love wonder tape for zippers, but liked the stabilizing and less gummyness ( izzat a word?) of the Steam a seam. Date: 11/6/12 8:59 PM For a temporary adhesive I use Elmer's Washable Glue stick. Like wonder tape it will wash away even after pressing. But once it is pressed you can not move the glued item unless it is washed. I use it in applique with good results. It does not leave the stiff texture that other adhesives do.
