I am saving my way to get the new 750 as many know but I am also still considering the embroidery option. To add to my expenses, I will have to get a new computer as this desktop is 10 years old. I am looking at laptops and Windows 7 is still available and will probably be the operating system I get. I doubt Win 7 will be a problem. But my question is about Windows 8 which has just launched. How has Bernina traditionally responded to updates in operating systems and how may this affect updates on the sewing machine itself... or if I get embroidery software? -

I'm running Windows 8 Pro and I can report V6 Pro, My Label, Designworks and Border software all work fine. I sent some designs to my 580 from V6 and printed a My Label pattern to my plotter from it.

Microsoft learned a lot from the Vista issue - they said they were going to make sure we didn't have a bunch of legacy issues with systems going forward.

Honestly I did put it on my laptop to test before the tower but they have a deal for $40 for the upgrade right now so I figured this was the time.

Wow Annenet, thank you for this. This was exactly what I needed to know. I'm glad also that MS has learned their lesson... I remember big nightmares from that upgrade to Vista. Right now I am using Windows XP and it works fine but I know technology is changing fast. I want to be sure that when I replace this computer that it gives me the flexibility to go into embroidery without a whole mess of upgrades.

I think I will contact my dealer to see what they are saying about the 7 series and windows 8 if there is anything to report. But based one your experience I think I safely can move forward.

So you are thinking of getting the Bernina v6 software? I got mine after I went to Windows 7, and no problems at all. I did have to install something from the Bernina site after or before installing, but it works great.
They just released another update a couple of months ago, and I had no problems installing that either.
You might want to wait till the upgrade to V7 comes next year. I would think that one is good for Win 8.

I like it alot! It does take sometime to get used to. The first screen is called Metro UI and it looks like a touch screen but my mouse works on it. I have my desktop (looks like 7) as one of the tiles. I click it and I get what looks like my desktop but a bit different.

I can launch applications off of either screen. My printers all work with it as does all my hardware. I haven't found a program that won't run.

To go back and forth on the screens I just have to hit the Windows key on the keyboard.

hi there! i just purchased the V6 software and a Windows 8 computer to run it on. in trying to download the software but i can't get past the "insert dongle" page. i've gone back to best buy where they turned off the windows firewall as well as the norton firewall and antivirus but it still will not download. (might i add...i'm not a very techie person) i saw where you are successfully running the software and i wanted to know if there was anything else that i'm missing that could be causing this. we tried beginning the download on a friends computer that has windows 7 and it began downloading fine...so it's not the software/dongle. i've gone onto bernina's website and found similar problems and downloaded the HASP driver but still nothing. anything you could offer would be great. thanks so much, Lindsey.

From my previous experince with problems downloading Bernina software to computers - I've contacted Bernina tech support and they were able to phone me and get into my computer and they took care of the problem. Give that a try, they were very helpful and it didn't take long at all. I was using another program and another operating system version, but I'm sure they will be able to help you. It will save you much time and worry!!
