Hello!
I really enjoy this one style of skirt I've seen on a variety of formal wear dresses, but I am completely stumped as to how the look is achieved. These are some images to showcase what I'm talking about
Dress 1
Dress 2
It's often used on cocktail dresses, and is only described as layered tulle. I get that it's layered, but how is it cut? It has this great jagged effect to it, and I know it's not simply layering tulle. Any help would be super appreciated as I hope to employ this effect on a dress for the holiday season. I can't find any video/tutorials, all of them are those cheesy no-sew tutus for kids and Halloween costumes.
Thanks in advance!

Squares sewn in the center maybe. I'm sure others know for sure.

Go check out some bridal or fancy dress stores to see if they have something similar. Then you can take a few photos in the dressing room.

Or at least find out how it's done.

I work in formal wear, some are cut squares, some are circles, some are ruffled tiers. The circles are folded in half twice for quarters and tacked to the under skirt. Squares are done a variety of ways. Fishing line rolled edges make curly hems.

Thank you for the responses!

Lol I actually have visited dress shops in the past pretending like I'm shopping for a formal event, when really I want to know how things are made. They never suspect a thing!

Tinflutterby and Tarrbaby, I believe the idea of squares is spot on, especially in regards to the pink and orange 'ombre' dress. I'm going to give it a shot, wish me luck!
