I just bought a Pfaff Ambition 1.0 and am having major problems winding the bobbin. It's frustrating because it was the first thing I did with my brand-new machine - wind the bobbin. It winds fine, but then it never stops. The motor keeps going and the pop-up screen never goes away (contrary to what the manual says). This is not a huge deal BUT I did just pay $800 for the machine and really want to be able to say that it works perfectly.

Has anyone else had this problem? I wound two bobbins and both times it just never stopped trying to wind. I'm more annoyed and frustrated than confused, honestly.

Thanks!

Did you buy it from a dealer? I would take it back to them to fix---sounds like some electrical error.

I have a Pfaff 2134 and the bobbin motor will change speeds on it's own in levels---first starts out slow then it goes faster for a 1/2 second and then faster and finally faster!! Scared me when it first did it---took it back and was told nothing is wrong. But that is how my dealer's tech is, doesn't mean your's will be of course... But I myself figured out that if I:

1. turn on the machine and let it register everything
2. turn the handle wheel so that the needle goes all the way into the throat plate (but doesn't make a stitch), it makes a computer sound, and then I lift the needle back up
3. THEN wind my bobbin--it will wind at the speed I run it at and not what it wants to do!

IT would be interesting if lowering then raising the needle (after the computer sound) solved your problem too....but then again, mine doesn't keep winding...

Good luck!

Thanks, Honeybee! I did buy it from a dealer, and I do have some time tomorrow (although I was going to use it to sew... ). I guess I had built myself up to having a perfect machine right out of the box, and then there was this problem. It's a fairly heavy machine, too, so toting it around wasn't on my list of things to do tomorrow.

I do think, like you said, that it should go back to the dealer. I'll try what you suggested with setting the needle and then winding the bobbin - you never know! I've also read that you can adjust the bobbin winder "stop" by unscrewing it and moving it to the left, but I'm not sure that will help and I'm afraid to try anything too vigorous in case they don't take it back.

Your problem does sound scary! I don't blame you for worrying about it. It's too bad your dealer didn't think that was a problem (I certainly would!)

Anyway, thanks for your help - I guess I just needed someone besides my husband saying it should go back!

Oh yes I would take it back and ask them. I would show them too if you can---not sure how many bobbins you want wound already! lol!!

Wow I have never heard of adjusting the bobbin stop (and I just learned a new word "bobbin stop" ). I too would be afraid to do it until you know what the dealer says.

The bad thing with my machine, is that it would do the same problem when I SEWED too!! That really scared me and I was naive and didn't SHOW the technician the problem----instead just told him and he told me it was a computer and that he'd check it out. I felt like he did not listen! But the good news is somehow I figured out that "setting the needle" (I liked your word choice ) corrected the problem. so weird... If I had it over to do, I would be one squeaky wheel!

Thus I encourage you to be a squeaky wheel!

Well this is timely. I just bought a new Viking Opal Monday. I had it back in today for the exact same problem. They adjusted the "bobbin stop" by loosing the screw and moving it a smidge to the left. Problem solved. I honestly didn't think this was any kind of common problem....but hmmmm....Hopefully that is all yours needs as well.

When I got my Grand Quilter - I decided that it was clicking off b-4 the bobbin was a full as i thought it could be - so, I adjusted it the other way.

Works perfect now.

Ohhh!! You got the Opal!

I also had the Ambition 1.0 - I loved the machine. Dont b afriad to adjust it a touch yourself -- tell them you did not touch it if it does not work. Its really just a little screw and just more the bar a touch. If it does not fix it - act dumb.

What everyone else said, just adjust the bobbin stop.

Just loosen the screw a turn, enough to move the stop. Don't totally loosen the screw, just a turn or so.

Move the stop to the left a touch, tighten the screw and try it out. Repeat until the stop is where you want it (some like more or less full bobbins).

Or your dealer can adjust it for you, will only take them a minute.

Lovely machine, congrats!
