Jacket Pattern from Minimal Yardage

Date: 11/8/12 12:55 PM I made the Vogue 1282 skirt (sans tucks & pleats) and would like to squeeze a matching jacket out of the remaining 1m of ponte knit fabric that I have. Does anyone know of a pattern that would work? I'd be making sz.14.

Date: 11/8/12 1:17 PM I'm looking forward to seeing what people suggest, but in the meantime, there's a thread on one-yard projects in the Fabric forum you might want to keep your eye on. Just thinking out loud here, but you might look for something with 3/4 sleeves and not a lot of seams that will eat up yardage in the piecing. ------ ~Gem in the prairie

Date: 11/8/12 7:10 PM I made a jacket from this Vogue pattern with a 54" square of fabric (view C, the longer one with 3/4 sleeves) and matched plaids. Not sure if the style would work with your outfit, but worth taking a look. Good luck!

Use a second fabric for facings, hems or sleeve bands. Or cut a jacket without facings and hems and bind the edges. Date: 11/9/12 0:52 AM Well, I went through my pattern stash and found one that will actually work! It's the Cynthia Rowley jacket from Simplicity 2250. There is just enough fabric to fit all of the pieces (including a facing- see the pink tape measure outline) after a bit of creative laying-out. I have a couple of scraps left from the skirt that I should be able to cut the belt pieces out of. there is supposed to be a bias binding around the edges of the jacket, but I will skip that. It turns out that my fabric is actually 1.15m (45") long, and I need every bit of it.

And it can TOTALLY be done, with very efficient layout. Check out this 18th Century jacket with ruffled peplum that a costumer eked out of just 1 m of striped silk. Yummy! ------ ~Gem in the prairie
