Date: 11/9/12 12:08 PM She did say that it did not need fancy stitches but she wants to sew pillows, etc.
I have a 20 year old Bernina so foot compatibility is not an option. she has sewn on my machine and is ok with the pedal.
I want something that is more sewing machine than toy.
Off to check the sewing machine reviews! Love to hear your experiences and suggestions

Date: 11/9/12 12:15 PM do you want mechanical or computerized? what is your price point? If she's already nine and has room to grow, already knows how to sew, maybe you want to get her something more than the Hello Kitty green machine (Janome 11706)... maybe you're looking more at the Janome 15822 or a Janome 18750. The last one is the Hello Kitty decal version of the DC 1050. If it were me I'd get the 15822 because I think it looks the cutest and it probably the sturdiest looking at the specs... but I haven't sewn on any of them so I'm maybe not the best to ask. -- Edited on 11/9/12 12:16 PM -- |

Date: 11/9/12 3:02 PM The Hello Kitty at this site looks very child-like and it may be your daughter would like something that does not look like a toy.
Check with your local dealers where your daughter can sit down and give the machines a try and then pick the one she likes best. |

Date: 11/9/12 3:51 PM I have Hello Kitty Green & I do not feel like it is a toy. It is a 3/4 size sm made by Janome. I would not sew anything real heavy heavy with it as the motor is not built to handle heavy weight things. Target online had different Hello Kitty's to choose from a few weeks ago, also Overstock.com. If the fabric is not heavy I think Hello Kitty Green would be fine the Christmas gift. I have sewn fleece on mine without problems....... however heavy cotton duck with batting & interfacing ... definitely NOT. .......... hope this helps a little. ------ I am a gal from Kalamazoo.... oh what a gal... smile.... It is in Michigan... la la la ...love that Glen Miller classic!

Date: 11/10/12 9:59 PM I have a 9 yr old niece who wanted a computerized machine. When I went to the dealer she was explaining that the kids today are soo good on the computers that they teach themselves on the computerized sewing machines. That they just figure it out fast.
So got her a computerized sw & she hasn't even needed to go to the dealer for help.
Depends on the girl's computer skills. Some are just so natural w/ the computers that it's easier than a mechanical. |

Date: 11/11/12 8:40 AM Thanks to everyone's comments. I haven't made a purchase yet but am still considering the options. Hello kitty is so darned cute but the brother runway series has some nice machines with a lot of features for the $. But I must remember who I'm buying for.... ------ Too much fabric to count... |

2 members like this. Date: 11/11/12 11:28 AM We have been all through lots of Hello Kitty stuff at my house, before. There is just no shortage out there of zillions of Hello Kitty stickers and even lots of glittery charms and stick on rheinstone sort of stick on things for cell phones and lap tops and other hard objects for sale all over.
So if you did not find her a Hello Kitty machine from the get go, that was just like you wanted, I think any machine could be "turned into" a Hello Kitty machine, by even sticking some of that stuff on it possibly. |
