Date: 11/9/12 6:17 PM Ok I bought an burda envelope pattern 4169 for a cape and surprise surprise only german, spanish and some other language is all that is in the directions. I might be able to get a translator or follow the pictures but burda isn't all that explicit to start with their instructions. I have bought lots of oop patterns since coming to PR but this is my first experience with this. It was sold here in the US and nowhere did the seller mention it wasn't in English. ARggg. Has this happened to any one else? I have been really lucky on the auction sales scene so I guess I am overdue for a zonker. I did buy a russian copy once of the infamous burda magazine with the turtle neck but I knew I was doing that and it was the only one I could find. |

Date: 11/9/12 10:34 PM Probably your first action should be to take it up with the seller. Ask for a refund if the pattern is not usable. I think not mentioning the languages in the pattern is a problem, and you should be able to return it and get your money back. |

Date: 11/9/12 11:20 PM I agree - take it up with the seller first (though take into account whether you can get the pattern at all if you don't keep this one). They should have known because the outside of the pattern will be in German too, not just the instructions. If you do keep it maybe someone here will have the English version and could scan it, or otherwise maybe you could use the instructions for another cape pattern to assemble it, if you get stuck following the pictures. |

1 member likes this. Date: 11/10/12 4:01 AM Depending on how old that Burda pattern is, lack of English instructions may not be your only problem. I have a Burda pattern from 10 years ago, that I recently replaced with a German copy. In my case it was deliberate as I could not find an English copy in a reasonable timespan. The English pattern has seam allowances included but the German one does not. -- Edited on 11/10/12 4:03 AM -- |

Date: 11/10/12 5:06 AM No seam allowances on this one but at least I know I would need to add them.
I haven't decided what to do with this-probably nothing but am irked. I don't know if I have enough sense to use this one . I may let someone look at it that speaks espanol so I can ask a few questions like is that a lining or the wrong side illustrated and what are the fabric suggestions . One view looks as if it might be double sided fleece that is trimmed off and sewed to opposing sides and some of the same at the arm edges of the cape. The pattern back is missing and that info. I liked the other view which is sort of a tailored cape and has fur trim on the hood. I liked the little tab thing that turned it into a sleeve of sorts also but maybe I should find another pattern-in a store perhaps. Lol! Sellers like this ruin it for others that sell the oop ones. |
