looking for fabric for camis for winter

HI all,
For many years, I have been wearing Campmor's silk camis in the winter. They are so thin that they are nearly invisible under clothes, but they do such a nice job of keeping me warm.
This is the product:
http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___68158

They are just wonderful, and I would like to make some, but can't seem to find the silk knit fabric. And I don't know what might be a good substitute. I kind of think that the fact that it is a knit makes it a better insulator, but maybe that's not so.

Can anyone give me some ideas? There's no point in paying more than $20 a yard for silk since I can buy the cami for that, and there's no fitting issue with this type of item.

I searched PR, but only found Very Old threads that didn't give me much help.

Any thoughts or suggestions on what might work for me?
Rose

I haven't seen it cheaper than your target price. Maybe someone else has.
I use silk jersey for my layering t's year-round. I agree, it's great for that.

Kashi at Metro Textiles had a nice mid weight silk knit in solid colours for $14 per yard when I visited in May 2012 at PR weekend.

There was some at Mood for $18 per yard too.

Cheap fabrics, like cheap shoes, are a false economy.

Emma One Sock has gorgeous top quality 100% silk knits, but double the price. You're going to be better off cost-wise to purchase RTW, imo.

I also looked at Dharma Trading - no knit, but they do have a plain silk knit cami for $9.

Nick of Time textiles has a couple silk knits that must be lightweight, given that they run like $8 a yard. Only reason I haven't ordered is that I'm hunting for more hefty knot silk, but it's worth a shot?

At those prices, if you've got the bucks, sure it's worth a shot. Try 'em--and then report back to us!

Have you considered tech fabrics, like UnderArmor? Rockywoods does have both HeatGear and ColdGear in stock.

Wow, there are some really good suggestions here. Thanks very much to all of you.

I've already ordered from Dharma trading, and am waiting for info from Nick of Time.
