1 member likes this. Date: 11/14/12 2:32 PM I have been watching some ebay auctions for the 12 spool sets of Aurifil, 1422 yds per spool. They retail for an average of $8.95/spool, and the 12 spool collections are about $100.
In ebay auctions these sets have been selling for around $60 + shipping!
of course if everyone goes and bids it will drive up the prices...
just thought I'd pass it on... ------ Cathryn |

Date: 11/14/12 2:54 PM What makes this thread so good? I keep hearing about but have never brought any. Hard for me to justify the prices when I can get some usable cheaper. ------ quiltingwolf.blogspot.com |

Date: 11/14/12 3:26 PM It is nice for piecing and works well for some for FMQ.
It is good consistent quality, so less fraying and breakage. It is a nice weight, not too thick and not too thin, makes it versatile.
edit: one more thing!
these are big spools of thread! The average size spools you get at the fabric stores are 200-250 yards, so 1422 yds is significantly more! -- Edited on 11/14/12 3:33 PM -- ------ Cathryn |

Date: 11/14/12 10:41 PM It is thin, so it does not add bulk to the seam allowance; it is strong, which is helpful for 2-ply; the spool is very large (1300 meters) so it lasts a long time; very little lint; lots of colors including some gorgeous variegated ones which I especially love; the spools are well-designed to help with tangling.
A spool of Aurifil is more than a spool of say, Coats and Clark, but it is a lot bigger, so I am not sure that it is more expensive per yard.
I am not a particular thread snob, and I have C&C and other threads in my stash, but for piecing I love Aurifil because of its strength and thinness. ------ Barb |

Date: 11/15/12 4:17 PM Much better prices from TristanThreads in BC Canada. I've made a few orders of sets of 28-50wt cotton. Less than half the local prices even with shipping. I like the 50wt for piecing and general sewing, the heavier weights for quilting and top stitching.
I've got a thread stash now too. Also love Presencia 60wt (thanks to CJ 💕) for piecing and Masterpiece (though I haven't tried the new 3 ply). ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸 |

Date: 11/15/12 4:19 PM Might have to check this out. Wouldn't need a lot I mainly use a neutral color for piecing. Do you use it for quilting also. ------ quiltingwolf.blogspot.com |

Date: 11/15/12 4:25 PM Yes, I prefer the 40 or 28 wt for quilting b/c I like a thicker quilting thread most of the time, but the 50 wt is super for that too and hand appliqué. They have sets of neutrals for piecing. ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸 |

I have briefly checked out their site, and they are getting rid of all their Aurifil to sell something else!
I can NOT find if the listed prices are US dollars or Canadian dollars, I didn't have a lot of time, but looks like they have some great deals on Aurifil!

Date: 11/16/12 0:14 AM Well, it seems like they've had Aurifil "on clearance" for well over a year. ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸 |
