ironing board. Any suggestions? ironing board

What did you like about your old one? Was it super light-weight or heavy duty? If you want something fairly heavy duty, it seems you're going to have to pay for it. If you want something fairly lightweight, but sturdy, then I bought a fairly inexpensive one at Ikea. Maybe down the line I will get something really heavy duty, but I just couldn't fathom spending $100 or more on an ironing board at the time. Date: 11/16/12 6:05 AM I got a $20 one from Ikea to hold me over until I found the one I really wanted. That was 2 years ago! Ikea's is light weight but stable - the inherited one from my grandmother was heavy- stable and all wood. I've adjusted to the slightly wider Ikea curve, my grandmothers curve was very narrow and easy to iron shirts on. I loved my grandmothers wooden board that held heat for pressing but it was HEAVY, my Ikea board is like a feather weight! And it is tall enough- my grandmothers was way to short. If I need more flat ironing space I use towells or flannel sheeting on our butcher block island. my table. I am thinking of getting DH to make a wooden topper- but them I would be back to the *too heavy* thing. Hmm, just got an idea to make a ironing board cover for that butcher block island! It even near the sink which means my steam iron wil be happy. -- Edited on 11/16/12 6:18 AM -- ------ re-living my youth through sewing...

For many years I have two because I didn't want to go to the basement (main spot for sewing and such) for touch-ups. Now, the pad and cover - those do die on occasion and can be replaced with what pleases you.

The condensation would gather on the underside and create rust, and then once it was rusted, the condensation would drip orange rustwater on my clothes. So I got rid of it. OP: When mine went bad, I got a Reliable ironing board. It's here on Amazon: Reliable Ironing Board. It's pricy, but it's extremely sturdy and it's supposed to not rust because the metal isn't just painted, it's powder-coated, which is more durable. It's a good board, but even after just 8 months of use, the pad on top is wearing thin, so I'll probably have to make myself another one. However, most of the other ironing boards I looked at had super thin pads to begin with, so at least I did get 8 months with the original pad on this one!
