I learnt that there is a connection between ratings of reviews and and stars. Please explain how this works. A member has suggested we should pause to rate a review before moving on to read another post, as someone has taken time and trouble to write a review , post photos etc . Many of us read reviews and then decide if that pattern is something we want to sew, let's show our appreciation by rating the review.

My thanks to all reviewers.

PS I am still learning how to get photos from my camera to my laptop. hope to get reviews starting in the New Year.

I always try to encourage and thank those who bothered to post reviews by a rating and comment. I don't if they already have a slew. Not sure of the benefit of having a star by your name other than just having it, so I don't bother with that nor base my rating on that.

I just checked one regular reviewer whose reviews I always read with enormous interest and who does really creative and interesting sewing, and they only have one star, so I think I'll just go back to ignoring the whole star thing, myself.

The average rating of your reviews is one of the least factors in earningnstars. Not many people give not enouggh info, so almost everyone has an average of very helpful. Its much more helpful to add someone to your favorite reviewer list.

A person may have only one star simply because they haven't participated on PR long enough to have accumulated the points needed for the higher ratings. Depending on how active you are, it can take a several months to several years to work your way up to two stars.

I agree mmcp. I will continue to leave ratings and comments on those who don't have many as a appreciation for the info and ignore the whole popularity star thing. Reading reviews of a pattern before I make it has saved me from mistakes and in some incidents, I decided to not make the pattern. I appreciate all the lovely people who post here and consider all of you favorites. Happy sewing to all!

Mystery solved:
For item 3:
3. 25% (sum of average rating on all your reviews)

The calculation is really
3. 25% (average of average ratings on all your reviews)

This means its better for a review to get 1 very helpful review than to get 9 very helpful reviews and 1 helpful review. Reviews with no ratings are rated as 0-not enough info, so they drag the average of the averages down.

However, the component is a small one in the overall score, and that's assuming a person pays to the scores in the first place. The stars look pretty though.

Personally I think the patterns should earn the stars, not the people.
