I just sold my SailRite LS1 machine because it was too much power for just everyday sewing. It was possible to sew everyday stuff with it, but it required multiple manual tension adjustments that were not simple. I am in the market for a straight stitch only machine that will sew over many layers and do a great straight stitch. I have narrowed it between the Juki and the Brother. Both are in my price range. I ruled out the Janome 1600 because I like the feed dog drop on the other two. I think that the Brother is the better buy, but I wanted to see what others might think before I make my mind up. I also love that the Brother is listed as 1.5 amps.

I know. I'm just trying to decide. If I go with the Brother, I get more for the $. If I go with the Juki, I can do flex pay with HSN. I just really want to know if the 7 piece feed dog on the Juki beats the pin feed on the Brother. From what I can gather, the pin feed really is just for stuff like velvet. AllBrands says that the walking foot with the Brother is sturdier. Decisions, decisions.

I did not know the Juki was on HSN. Flex pay helps allot! ... now to hope someone comes along with a big push one way or the other. I am going to go look at that Juki....

I have the Brother and it sews through everything I have thrown at it, including multiple layers at seams of tote bags.

I can't speak on the Juki. When I got my Brother the similar Juki was the tl98. There is no Juki dealer around here.

I waffled over a straight stitch machine for years and finally based my decision on what was carried by my favorite dealer. There were pros and cons to all. In fact, DH got tired of my waffling and bought the machine for me for christmas a few years (three?) ago.

My advice? Just pick one. No reason not to love either one.

I finally just went with the Juki for the flex pay option since that helps so much. I can't wait to get it!! Once I get it paid off, I'll get my embroidery only machine, then I'll be set!!

I have the TL2010Q and I LOVE IT! Can't say enough nice things--and I especially love the cutting action by pushing the heel on the foot pedal. Does the 2000q do that too? It is an awesome feature.

One thing I would add --

I have started to oil my machine a touch (including a drop inside the bobbin) - after every 2 bobbins - I use my machine WAY tons ... and I think it is running better and quieter than ever b-4. I dont over oil just a drop - but, I think waiting 8 hours is a little too long. 8 hours is the manual's recommendation for my machine. the grand quilter.
