Date: 11/17/12 4:46 PM Really could use some "other" eyes to help me with this Wall hanging 5x5 squares I'm making for my DH
These are up on my design wall and I can't decide what seem to fit with what!!!
The only row I love right now is the black scotty dogs with the white/black herringbone
The others are tossed up there in a variety -- HELP
Appreciate another set of eyes or several opinions!
Thanks so much

Date: 11/17/12 6:14 PM Is there a reason they are all grey and red? There is not much difference in each square. I have no clue to tell you what to do wiht them but add more colors. Unless it is a high school or college color scheme, it need added colors. You could add some blues and pinks, as they are in some of the blocks. -- Edited on 11/17/12 6:47 PM -- ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors.

Date: 11/17/12 6:34 PM I've seen that line of fabric and wondered how it would look cut up, and it is SO CUTE. I love the line with the Scotties too.
I am not going to offer an opinion of what you should do because I think when you find it, you will know it, and it should be your own vision.
But those dogs are just adorable. ------ Barb |

Date: 11/17/12 7:29 PM Your eyes know what is wrong; the problem is trying to convince your mind. Try squinting at your layout. You'll see that the last HST (Half Square Triangle) in the first row is the same value as the first and last one in Row 2. Try moving those two to somewhere else. Right now you have two of the same value beneath each other.
The triangles in the lower left HST in Row 5 are the same type of fabric and the values are the same. Try matching one of those triangles up with one of your smaller prints to maintain consistency.
That's about all I see.
EDITED TO ADD: I think the reason why you like the herringbone and scotty dogs is that the values are stronger between those triangles. Maintain the same values in your HST's and you should be happier. You can use the red herringbone ones in this quilt as much as you can use the scotties because they are almost the same value.

Right, my eyes knew the value of the scotty dogs and herringbone were just right, when I found the others that worked as well in contrast it hit the right cord. Have put the rows together, now to add them to each other and pray the seams meet up :-) This was a precut Turnover, because if I cut anything with my rotary (need more practice), it automatically skews but I learn with every new project. ------ I have great enthusium for sewing, but lack talent to be great.
