Would you wash fabrics for accessories?

I was just wondering, do you have to wash fabric when you are making accessories? I'm making a car organizer for X'mas gift, and it would cut some time if I don't have to wash it... I can just get to it!

If it will be, then yes, wash it beforehand. If it can't, then I wouldn't worry about. I prewash the fabric for the totes I make because they are washable. If this is something that won't be, then no, it would make no difference and just take up your time needlessly. Mary

Car organizers and tote bags get dirty. If I can't toss it in the washer, it doesn't get done. Also washing will remove a lot of the sizing and smell from the fabric. Some folks are sensitive to strong odors.

Most crafts and home dec and accessories are backed or have binding or trim or batting or something. They all shrink at various rates which causes puckering. Until it is washed enough to remove the sizing, the fibers may not reflect the final size. I generally soak in hot water with a small bit of detergent, rinse, wring out & dry on hot (if cotton). Then soak again in hot with a bit of vinegar, dry and steam press. I have measured when done and find I lose 2 to 3.5 in per yard! ------ re-living my youth through sewing...
