Date: 11/22/12 9:25 PM My Aunt is a quilter - she made this quilt a long time ago as we all sign it every year. Most years there are more than 30 people at her house.
We are a family of social workers and always have a new face around. I have not been home for Thanksgiving in a long time - Ive been doing my own social work thing in the city ... but, this year my cousin got in touch with me on facebook and we worked a scam on the Thanksgiving quilt! I love it!
(My regular name is Shane Boyington - My Drag Name is Taffy Pulls) -- We have been doing the quilt at Thanksgiving for a long time!!

Date: 11/23/12 6:30 AM Yes nice to have other quilters in the family. My mom didn't sew it was my Dad who encouraged me after my mom had died. He took me to buy me my first machine. Little did he know he started a 40 year love affair. ------

Date: 11/23/12 6:38 AM My Aunt used to edit a quilting magazine - and has written a few books on quilting.
Lots of people in my family are quilters - My mom is not a sewing machine person at all. She used to make amazing baskets .. now she is crazy about anything primitive or lodge style.
Because there are so many quilters in my family - every house I spent time in as a child was full of quilts. I thought that was normal. Im learning its not.

Date: 11/23/12 6:55 AM I was just talking with my cousin -- I guess I underestimated the number of people who come to Thanksgiving -- she said there were 50 there yesterday.
Thats crazy. I was used to that many people when I was a kid! They get together like that once a month or so now -- but it was every weekend when I was a kid. ------

Date: 11/23/12 6:57 AM What is normal? What's normal for some isn't normal for others. My paternal grandmother sewed but she died when I was young. My uncle who is in his 80's still has her treadle. but they have always lived in southern VA so we never saw them much. My Dad used to tell me how my grandmother would make patterns out of newspaper. ------

Date: 11/23/12 7:03 AM I've always wondered what those big Thanksgiving dinners were like. My family of origin was only 5 (I'm the only one left) of us and my family now only 3. My husband has extended family but they pick and choose when they want to associate with us and apparently yesterday wasn't one of those times, even though the rest of them managed to hook up with each other at various houses. Husband and I have gotten used to it and rarely go to family functions but it upsets my daughter. But you can't choose your family only your friends. I was just happy to get through Thanksgiving dinner with good blood sugar levels. ------

3 members like this. Well, during the summers there are enough people to play a kickball game -- or have a badminton tournament with just us..?? I never really played with them. I was busy in the sand box designing citys.
At Thanksgiving - We did lots of singing after we ate. People played the piano and we were all singers so there was fantastic harmonies and stuff.
We traded tree ornaments between cousins on thanksgiving, after eating -- back then there was usually lots of snow to play in, too.
We also loved karaoke -- the kids did dress up and performed for the parents. - We also played games like family feud and scatagories --
The parents traded handmade gifts to each other - all wrapped and it was like a prelude to Christmas.
We put up the tree and decorated so it would be ready for thanksgiving.
I dont remember any fights - nobody really has drama like that -- Im the one with drama and I dont go visit often.. LOL
Sometimes the people who would come as guests just had no idea what to do with themselves around so many people - they looked intimidated by it. I guess I would look that way now.
I dont know - Ive never thought this before - but maybe having a huge family hand hanging out with them all the time is part of why I love club culture so much -- my family was so much fun and we all just acted out all the time -- sorta like drag! ------
