First thing is that I like symmetry. I like balance. I think with the aid of computers and what not, it's really broadened the horizons for quilt makers and made non artists, artists. I don't generally have gobs of one fabric color lying around.... hence the patchwork bit in quilting. nice ideas though.

What I wonder about is the fact that lots seem to be quilted by professional quilters and with the expanse of blank fabrics in lots of them, it kind of seems like cheating to me. I realize that the concept and colors is the designers, but the beauty of a lot of these quilts depends on the quilted areas to make it pop and stand out. So can you really say "I made this quilt"? Or am I way off base here?? Date: 11/27/12 11:27 AM I love whatever people want to make/do with their sewing machines. But, my head picks at some of the semantics they use to describe their work. I wrote about it on my blog once and I still question the same things. The Modern Quilt Guild says their quilts are not art pieces but, they are functional. I dont know how many young people have cold laps and need lap quilts - but - really, so many of the quilts I see from the modern quilt guild (and the projects in the modern quilt book I bought) are too small to be functional for much of anything. (for me) And, Im with everyone else regarding the yardage needed for some of these projects. I love the looks of lots of the quilts. I love how they look. I should say it one more time so nobody gets upset at me - I love the way the modern quilts look. I want everyone to make what they want to make. Its the semantics that confuse me. Maybe if their name was "Everyone makes Gee's bend quilts" I would get it. I love those Gee's bend quilts and have made my share of knock offs' ------ Drag queen quilter!

Hard to know really. If there is a single motif over the entire quilt that's very regularly done (and it's not line quilting or stitch in the ditch) for some reason that makes me think it's done on a longarm. Is that because all the commercial quilts have that allover pattern look? Were they all lap quilts? That's a shame -- Edited on 11/27/12 11:35 AM --

Date: 11/27/12 12:39 PM Anyone want to whip our a measly lap quilt and finds no cold laps close to home, please mail it to me. I live in San Francisco and houses are not really insulated here. I grew up on the east coast in a warm snug home. Since I'm not a quilter, at all, I'd appreciate your cast offs, extras, or goof ups- I always love things people find fault with. I have a few faults of my own, or so I've been told. Thanks in advance for any goodies you want me to love. PM for my address and I'm not kidding. ------ Sometimes she didn't always follow the recipe. Pfonzie- my honey Pfaff Creative Performance, Bernina 930 and 830, Evolution serger.
