Etsy versus Pinterest Or both?

They get a certain percentage of what you sell? Pinterest is a place that you "pin" interests or tastes so that you can share with others that have the same from around the world? Does anyone know where I could get more information? I have been on the websites reading what I could find but would like details. My understanding is that Pinterest is sort of advertisement or a place where you can learn and see pics of others artwork/craft, etc. It is amazing that you can plan a wedding on there or redecorate a house. I need to become more techie apparently. Thanks.

Date: 11/29/12 1:55 PM Etsy is like ebay so you are right, they get a % of what is sold but it's a lower % on Etsy, but ebay has a larger audience. Pinterest isn't related to sales exactly, imagine a folder where you keep clippings of a sofa you liked, or a dress, except that this is online. What makes it special is that each photo links directly back to its website. I like to buy stuff on Etsy because the creators are getting the majority of the purchase price. The items are things that I normally couldn't find in a store such as custom-made jewelry, wooden toys, etc. The sellers have added extra links on necklaces for me upon request. All the sellers I have worked with try to make the customers happy since they are rated by them. Pinterest has given me lots of inspiration as well as recipes and DIY project directions. Now you can buy vintage sewing patterns and furniture, and quite a few other things too. Pinterest - the best way I can describe it is....do you ever rip things out of magazines and stuff it in folders to keep? Pinterest is the electronic form of that - it's for all the things you find on the internet and want to keep track of.

Date: 12/2/12 1:30 PM With Pinterest sellers (companies) can have a Pinterest account & create boards and pins to get their things potentially more known through Pinterest. The pins go back to links where things can be bought, be it Etsy or a company website. So it could be good advertising. ------ Martha

It was about 6 to 8 years ago; maybe more. People weren't happy with what eBay was charging, so Etsy (and several other sites) got started. Etsy offers handmade items, along with vintage. The item must either be made by you or made prior to 1993. Pinterest is what I call a "computer collage"--you find things to "pin" to the "bulletin board" of your computer. I've always been happy with the sellers, mailing, communication, and the fact you're often helping moms make a little extra at home. Both can take up a lot of your time when you start searching!
