I'm seriously considering a coverstitch machine, most likely BL. But, I don't want to get one only to have a new model come out in a few months. Does anyone know if this latest model is very recent and I should jump in? Or is a new one about to be released?

You can never, ever have the newest and latest unless the company stops making the particular brand or model you have.

Test drive what the dealer has (check the BL website for models) and if you like the results, buy it.

If not, sign up for BL newsletter and wait.

I'm not sure whether it makes much of a difference with a coverstitch machine. They only do a limited amount of stitches. How much different can a newer model be other than to improve the lighting? You may get a better deal on an older model and not have to pay today's price for basically the same machine.

Hmm, that does make sense. I'll stop by a different dealer today and see what they have. The last babylock dealer I was at several months ago told me that babylock didn't sell such a thing as a coverstitch - no kidding!. Once I assured him that that BL DOES sell a coverstitch machine he spent 10 minutes looking it up and making a phone call to find out that I was right. Needless to say, I don't have a lot of confidence in that particular store....

Well I had to look to see where you live. For a minute I thought you were talking about the yutz I have for a BL dealer.

LOL - amazing and frustrating... These people sell BL's and don't even know the line of products? Same guy that kept trying to get me to buy a basic serger (that he had in stock of course) instead of ordering the BL Imagine that I wanted. I stuck to my guns and got what I wanted, but good grief...

The latest BLCS is BLCS-2 and it came out several years ago, and the only difference was the whiter case to match the whiter cases of the Evolution and Enlighten sergers.

With a coverstitch machine, if you can do one, two, and three thread hems and a chain stitch, you're in the top line and good to go for decades.

With the BLCS you can chain off the fabric and make lovely thread chains; the BLCS is one of the only CS machines capable of stitching off the fabric.

Coverstitch machines aren't fast-changing machines like sewing machines, so a good model you buy today is likely to remain a good model a decade from now.

Thank you LynnRowe, I guess I'm thinking of it like electronics - new versions and new technology all the time! And, a CS is such a pricey investment. Since my sewing machine is 20+ years old and works great, I guess I shouldn't worry quite so much.

Technological advancement in a coverstitch machine means a BLCS, lol! The jet-air threading of the looper is pretty much as advanced as coverstitch machines get.

They're just not really conducive to tech advances. They do two things (cover and chain stitches) and unless someone can convince the little brats to do the dishes...

Very funny...I had a strange experience when I purchased my BLCS. I asked the dealer to order a 1 1/8" binder with it. He did as requested. When I opened the box there it was one little tiny sewing machine binder. I wonder how much this dealer knows aboout accessories!
