Tips on monogramming with old machine

I posted earlier in the beginner forum but had no responses so figured I would try here since I had great responses on this board when I first started sewing and sought advice. I have an old Pfaff 1222e which I really love. I plan on sewing some some bags for gifts this year and would like to monogram initials. I've never done this before. Any tips? Thank you!!
