We have a Janome dealer here in town who is like that "oh (whatever machine you are trying to trade in) they are just junk. I don't even want it." I don't know what price point you have to be buying at for him to take your "junk" but I don't put any stock in anything he says. I love my Viking Opal that I bought about three weeks ago - from another dealer!! LOL

I don't think so - I think that there are just dealers who don't like or want to sell certain brands. I've heard nothing negative about them for quite some time.

I think it was some of the lower priced Vikings that weren't that great. You might check them out on eBay. Many machines are sold there.

I've owned a couple of Vikings in the last 5 yrs, they were good machines, most dealers don't want used machines period.

Viking doesn't seem to have the dynamic that Janome, Bernina & Brother do these days and I'm hard pressed to say exactly why. My local Viking dealer started carrying Brother last year and they far outsell the Vikings.

Perhaps Ebay as a means to sell yours would be an option?

I imagine that it has to do with the brand machine that the dealer is carrying, and not a reflection on your machine. Some dealers will automatically bad mouth the machine lines they don't carry. It isn't very nice, and you shouldn't listen.
A dealer in our town disparaged my favorite brand of machines; now he carries them. I doubt if he is saying rotten, untrue things about them now!

I sold a Viking Designer SE about two years ago. It was a lovely machine, not junk at all. I downsized, so decided to keep a smaller machine (with fewer features).

I recently called about a trade in price for a different brand. The response made it clear to me that my dealer wants to sell new machines and isn't particularly interested in dealing with used machines. I wouldn't pin your experience on the Viking brand.

On reflection, and in fairness to my dealer, I would imagine that there are selling quotas that dealers need to maintain. And, of course, the profit generated from a new machine sale that is necessary to cover their operating costs.

My Diamond Deluxe is a fantastic machine. It's just beautiful in so many ways. I've owned all the Designers except the first Diamond, and they have all been great and so well-mannered. But I got a sense of dissatisfaction with the Viking company from my former dealer, previously one of their top dealers. I think it must have occurred with the reorganization. Anyway, I notice she now sells Berninas and Brothers too.
