One of my babies left home

Date: 12/4/12 1:27 AM Not a single friend of mine needs a call at 1:22 am with me on the line screaming about a quilt. One of the guys who bought a quilt sent me a pic of it on his bed -- Im thrilled! I think it looks great - he just moved into a new place -- yes the entire wall beside his bed is filled with giant windows that face the busiest street in my little city! ------ Drag queen quilter!

Date: 12/4/12 1:52 AM It made me feel special when he got excited about that quilt because he is a really beautiful guy who went to art school and makes amazing jewelry. He picked it up a week ago - but, when I saw his he said he was waiting to put it on his bed. Then, in between posting the pic here and coming back I looked on facebook and he had written this post - "Our society tells us to commemorate the day of our birth with celebration, cake and merriment. I do my best to accommodate the well wishes and greatly appreciate the love and support from family and friends but my birthday commemorates my adoption and therefore the first and most traumatic experience of my life. One that only recently in my adult life I have been able to fully understand. It represents the early years of repressed feelings and the emotional baggage of that initial abandonment that carry thru into my present life. This is a day to reflect upon the emptiness I feel deep in my heart, that which cake and wine can't ever fill. The emotional connection I have always felt to my birth mother, a stranger who's face I can't imagine despite years of trying and who I blindly love in thoughts and dreams. It is not a choice to feel this way but a seemingly involuntary and cellularly imprinted state of emotional being that I find myself in each time this week in December rolls around. I am thankful for the life I have had and for those friends and loved ones who make it the rich and beautiful experience it is but I think it is important to acknowledge the way I truly feel about this day and to be emotionally aware of what it truly represents in my life. I send love to my birth mother because deep down I know our bond is closer today than any other day. " I guess he had bought the quilt for himself as a birthday present. And, thats why he put it on his bed tonight. I cried a little. Quilts are really special to people. My life brings me people who think blankets and dishes can change everything in their lives. ------ Drag queen quilter!

And I wish he could feel at peace about his adoption. My brother feels a lot of angst, but my sister doesn't seem to carry that burden. Our family is so very lucky to have them as family, and we would not have had that without adoption. I am so grateful that our family was blessed with my brother and sister. I think the quilt must feel like love. Date: 12/4/12 3:39 AM I am so glad that you screamed at us instead! Of all of your quilts, this may be my favorite, or if not, it is near the top. I find the abstractness of the background pieces, and the popping red grid which holds it altogether to be absolutely stunning. I thought it looked great in the original picture, but on the bed it is even more striking. It simply makes the room. Whatever he paid you was not enough. ------ Barb

Date: 12/4/12 7:32 AM what a beautiful story. you never know what is going on in people's hearts as they work their way through life. A quilt is so special. Nothing is a cozy as sleeping under the weight of a quilt. It is like a big hug. As hard as it is to let go of quilts, this one made it's way to the right person at the right time.

Date: 12/4/12 8:37 AM I make my Christmas cards for my friends by sewing 12 one-inch squares of fabric together like a quilt, 3x4. Inside the card, it reads: "Friends are like patchwork quilts--Each one different, but they wrap us with their love and make us feel warm" Your friend is much like that patchwork quilt. This story is beautiful and your friend has risen high above his predicament. And then there are the mothers who beat their children and alienate them.
