Date: 12/4/12 5:41 PM I was once told that pressing as you sew will make an item look more professional. Once I started to do that I did find that my items looked much nicer. On Craigslist there is an Elna Iron press for sale (Elna Iron) and I was thinking that maybe I should invest in something like this. But, I have no idea if this is a good way to press items or if it is a good press for one. So, I was just wondering if anybody else has one of these. And, if so, what is their opinion of it.

Date: 12/4/12 8:01 PM They might be calling it an 'iron' but if it is an Elna press, which I suspect it is, that is a clamshell press that is only good for flat things, especially fusing interfacing and pressing dinner napkins in my house. |

Date: 12/5/12 0:34 AM I have an Elna press. The only thing I use it for is fusible interfacing, and I love it for that! ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 12/5/12 8:32 AM Just now clicked on your link, and yep, that is a classic ElnaPress. Not good at all for "pressing as you sew" but for $80, I would snap it up to keep as a backup press. Plug it in at the seller's location, give it 5 - 10 minutes to heat up (they're a bit slow to reach the cotton/linen setting), to make sure it works.
In fact, that one looks almost identical to mine. The vap-o-spray thing is a joke. I use a hand-held spray bottle to mist my fabric. -- Edited on 12/5/12 8:33 AM -- |

Date: 12/5/12 10:47 PM I'm on my 3rd one over the last 30 years... For fusibles, they can't be beat! ------ nightowlsally.com
On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel.
My dearest wish is to have Bernina come out with a machine that doesn't give me a reason to *not* buy it.
2012: New Elna Lotus (mostly for granddaughter), Red Elna Press, Horizon 7700, Gidget 2 Table, Babylock Ellisimo Gold
