I am making a basic A-line skirt. The pattern does not include lining, but my skirt requires it...wool. I have the lining completed and was thinking about bagging it. BUT, should I sew on the waist facing and cut down the lining to fit? The wool is relatively light and I am unsure if the skirt minus the facing would hold its shape.
Thank you for any thoughts you might have.

I don't think you should eliminate the waist facing. The lining should start at the base of the facing. If you don't want the facing to be scratchy against your skin, you could use a cotton or something for the facing rather than the wool.

I mostly skip the facing and just take the lining to the top. Mostly I sew a piece of twill tape, or grosgrain ribbon, or something like that in the seam so that the skirt holds it's shape. I let the bottom of the lining skirt float free as I that makes it easier to iron. You can understitch the lining too and that helps keep it where it belongs.
