Date: 12/5/12 0:46 AM I have 3 yards of a gray and black pinstriped wool/lycra blend. The fabric is actually double sided and the other side is a black/gray speckle. It's pretty firm and has about 30% stretch. It's gorgeous and heavy and I have no idea what to make with it. I think it wants to be a jacket or dress, but I'm open.
I'm a pretty new sewer, about an advanced beginner level, but I'm also ambitious and regularly pick projects outside my abilities. However, tailoring scares the heck out of me, so no heavy tailoring.
Inspiration please?
Thank you!

Date: 12/5/12 1:35 PM I just bought a thick and rather stiff, but stretchy wool double-knit. It might be thicker than yours, but we can't compare. I think I will make a simple 60s style shift dress with it. Due to it's thickness, I'd rather have minimal seaming. I haven't looked at patterns yet but I expect I will find something suitable in my collection of Burda magazines.
COS uses lots of rather stiff fabrics, for inspiration : My Webpage -- Edited on 12/5/12 1:45 PM -- |

Date: 12/6/12 0:48 AM If the fabric is like a ponte knit, perhaps this jacket: Marni ponte jacket from StyleArc or this coat: Grace coat. Also, the fabric sounds as though it would be OK for a straight/pencil skirt. |

Date: 12/6/12 1:18 AM Ooooh! I love those ideas! V8539 is awesome but I'm not sure it would look good on me unfortunately, I'm pretty busty. But the Marni would work, and I might have enough to squeeze out a skirt too.

Date: 12/6/12 8:31 AM I made a jacket from some fabric that sounds similar to this. Here's my Review
Unfortunately, I had purchased the fabric at a garage sale and didn't know there was any wool in it. So I washed it after wearing it a couple of times and it shrunk beyond wearing. javascript:emoticon('') -- Edited on 12/6/12 8:33 AM -- ------ SandyinMO |

Date: 12/6/12 10:35 AM Totally agree w/ V 8539 - I just made that into a fun fleece coat. Also V1060 - someone just made that coat and it came out LOVELY! I am looking for a boiled wool for 1060 - good luck w/ your choice! ------ Get the quilters OUT OF MY WAY! |
