Date: 12/5/12 1:08 PM My tech support guy mentioned that most people do not do a regular system backup of their computers and how disatrous it is when something bad happens.
I have been using 'CrashPlan' for some time now and am VERY happy with it. I tried 'Carbonite' but didn't like it nearly as well, it was tedious to use.
Just mentioniing this(NAYY) because it's important protection for your valuable data.

Date: 12/5/12 2:17 PM You can also just backup your data either online or (old fashioned me) on DVDs. I just toss it on DVDs now and then, and the rest of the system is the OS and your apps which you should be able to redo anyway. ------ "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."

The tech was able to retrieve some of this information but not all and it is expensive for this service. I agree that anyone using a computer needs to back up their data - whether it is through another service or an stand alone peripheral. Don't procrastinate on this one. ------ Kemish |

Pretty much what I do, except I don't bother with dvds. I use 2 GB micro sd's that just slip into a card reader on the front of my machine. Sometimes they also get a second backup on a spare computer I have.
If I have a major disaster, I'd rather just take that opportunity to reinstall the OS and my apps. However, for those not at home around computers or who really want convenience, then any of those backup programs is better than nothing.
BTW, even if the worst happens and your files are not backed up, they are almost always retrievable. It's expensive to have done, but if you or a friend are comfortable hooking the hard-drive from the dead computer as a second hard-drive in a working machine, you will often (but not always) be able to see the files to retrieve. I wouldn't count on it, but good to know after the fact.
