I tried to use the topstitching foot this morning with mediocre results. Does anyone have some tips on this attachment?

:-)

Which topstitching foot are you using, big or small? What are you trying to topstitch? What exactly is your issue?

All I do is before attaching the foot to the mchine, place the two topstitching feet over the seam to see which fits better, attach the relevent one and sew.

I only have one topstitching foot for my 2340 and no others mentioned on their website. How are yours different from each other?

The Brother has two optional "topstitching" feet (they come as a set) which are purchased separately from the machine. The machine does come with a "special presser foot" (multi function foot) which can also be used for topstitching. It sounds like you are talking about the special presser foot, not the topstitching feet.

So exactly which foot are we talking about here and what is the issue?

Here is a link to the topstitching set - 6mm & 3mm. Top item on the list.

Sorry, I was mistaken about having only one topstitching foot. I have not had a chance to use them yet because I have not had my 2340 very long. I am looking forward to playing with my feet and learning to get full use out of them. Thank you for all your good advice, past, present and future. Happy New year!

I attempted to use both feet on a serged cotton interlock seam and I hoped that the topstitching feet (I think they are labeled LC1and LC2) would guide the stitching perfectly straddling the seam.

My stitching was all over the place and only looked completely straight and centered on about 30% of the seam. I've started to make tshirts and I wanted to start adding some topstitching details.

I will experiment some more today. I was also thinking of taking out the double fold binder and trying to cut some 43mm strips of fabric and trying to bind somehing.

Thanks for any tips/help you can provide.

I have had this machine for a few months and have only used it for hemming so far w/o a hitch! I am going into my sewing studio right now to make some tops already cut out and will mess with these feet a little. I think the directions are a little unclear on the paper that comes with it. Thinking it through, I do understand what they tell you to do, but doing it is another matter. Are you pressing the serged seam to the side first and then placing the foot with the groove over the serged seam? I also always go slowly until I have mastered the technique. Just because a machine can go fast doesn't mean you have to push the pedal to the metal.I will report after I play with it....tonight, California time.
