I did a very small amount of freelance work this year and was wondering if I will need a 1099 from the company I did the work for? Thanks ------ strikesmyfancy-2013.blogspot.com

Date: 12/9/12 3:08 PM I believe that if a single company paid you over $600, they have to give you a 1099. If you have multple companies that paid you $600 each, they also would each have to provide you with a 1099. It is their responsibility to provide you with those. ------ Deb: www.thinkingcouture.blogspot.com |

And even if they don't provide you with one. you still must declare the income. |

Date: 12/9/12 3:55 PM I don't have a problem with declaring the income at all. My issue is that they probably won't want to provide me with one, unfortunately so I wasn't sure I would need one from them. It was only one check and a one time job.
I guess my question is, do I need a 1099 to claim the income? -- Edited on 12/9/12 3:56 PM -- ------ strikesmyfancy-2013.blogspot.com

Date: 12/9/12 7:01 PM No, you don't. It's for informational purposes only. You don't have to attach it to your tax return like a W2. You just have to keep track of what you made and declare it on your income tax return.
