I recently purchased a Pfaff Creative 2140/2170. Also recently purchased a Babylock Esante Ese2. I have Designer's Gallery Custom Works II. I've just started going over the tutorial but don't understand how to get designs into the software. Do I need Pfaff software for the Pfaff? Do you need all the extra-lettering,sizing,density? Where do I go for more tutorial help? The dealer gave me a cable connected to a Pfaff card to connect to my computer and sewing machine when I bought the Pfaff.Any help would be appreciated as I haven't embroidered before except for a card that came with the Pfaff.Thanks.

No you do not need any other software than CustomWorks II! It will work for both machines with no problem.
To get designs into software you can either use file "open" and navigate to the folder where you have it stored on the computer, to the flash drive or navigate to a CD. You can also use "merge file" to get it into your software. To send it out, go to file "save as" (not file save) and it will give you a window to pick where to save it and a "files of type" drop down arrow to pick which format for your machine. I know the Baby Lock machine will use pes files. I don't know for sure what format the Pfaff uses, you need to know that to pick the file type so the machine will read it.
I highly recommend the Designer's Gallery Sew At Home Webinar class "Custom Works-the Basics". The next class is on December 17 and is excellent. You sign up here: http://www.babylock.com/sew-at-home/ You might also look and see if you get a free class with your software, sometimes you do and there will be a card inside the box. Even if you have to pay though, it is so worth it.

To get your Pfaff to communicate with your computer you need the cable you already have and Pfaff communication software. That software installs drivers on your computer and looks like a split screen with 3 windows (computer/designs you want to send to machine/designs inside machine memory). Your machine was supported under 3D/4D versions. The format your machine uses is VIP or never VP3. You can use the custom works software to arrange the design layout and save as VIP. Then use the communication software to send saved design to machine.

For your computer to communicate with the Pfaff 2140/2170 you MUST use the Pfaff 4D or 5D organizer. If you purchased your machine through a dealer they should have provided you with a copy. If they did not I would definitely go back and request it. If they are a Pfaff dealer, they can get a copy from Pfaff at no charge. If they are not a Pfaff dealer, it will be more difficult to get a copy. Either way the dealer should have advised you that you can not use embroidery on this machine without the organizer software.
