I've been sewing on patterns without SA for years, but I guess I've never actually encountered this before (not too many bust darts in little girl patterns!). I've traced off an ImageWear pattern with a bust dart and I've never added seam allowance for a bust dart before. I'm not sure how to handle this. My initial attempt doesn't look right and I am wondering if there is a visual guide or tutorial online somewhere. I've done a search on google and youtube, as well as several here and haven't come up with anything yet.

TIA!

eta: I'm not sure my initial question was clear. I'm trying to figure out how to get that little pointy bit that protrudes from the side seam at the open end of the dart so that I have enough fabric for the dart in the SA. Not sure if that is any clearer...

the pointy end of the dart is often finessed by actually folding the paper, and truing the draft to suit. I imagine the same applies to adding seam allowances.

Leave extra paper at the end of the dart and fold the dart as it would be sewn. Trace the cut line over the folded bit and cut through all the layers. When you open it up it will have the proper dart legs.

Thank you andye and Debbie!

Debbie,

I was just coming back to ask if that is how it was done. I actually based along the stitching lines on my STP and cut outside to the SA to see if that would give me the legs (couldn't think of what they were called!) and it was looking promising.

Thanks so much! =)
