Are there any blind hem machine tutorials out there? I'm finding lots of blind hem tutorials for sewing machine but not a blind hem machine? I want to get the most of my machine when it arrives.

I've seen you can use it for knits and hemming up pants and to drapery. but I'd love to see how people use it.

if i could nudge Ottis, my blindhemmer, into action, he could do a tutorial. It would be a very short one though...all he does is a blind hem.

I don't know of tutorials per se, but here are some tips I've garnered with experience (mine is one with a curved needle):

- Use a needle threader
- When removing the fabric, jerk it backward (away from you) quickly, that will lock the stitch
- On mine, the handwheel goes in the opposite direction than my sewing machine handwheel.
- Slippery fabrics may benefit from a little paper or some other stabilizer underneath to keep things in place.
- If you can, test your stitch width, depth, etc before hemming the real thing.

Love my blindhemmer! The stitches truly are invisible from the public side. The sewing machine blindhem can't compare.

I love this tutorial on Sew4home website http://www.sew4home.com/tips-resources/sewing-tips-tricks/how-make-blind-hem-stitch I find it very clear and all of a sudden it made sense to me.

Actually, a lot of their tutorials are ones that I refer to time and time again :)Sew4Home

Oops, just realised you are all talking about a separate machine all together :)

Oh well, I will leave my link there in case it does help someone :)

i haven't got mine yet but was able to download the manual from the internet. It doesn't show you how to lock the stitch in or different methods of applying it for various project like drapes or knit fabric. would love to see how you lock the stitch.

the blind stitch I am referring to is done on a blind hemmer not a sewing machine and there is little information on them unless google search engines aren't turning up the results I'm after. I'm sorry i wasn't more specific.

I found a couple of things:

Basic overview of the machine and how it works: youtube video

This one shows a closeup of how the stitch is made: another youtube video

And How to Use an Industrial Blindstitch Hemmer.

Mine is supposed to be adjustable for different stitch depths (lighter or heavier fabrics.) The manual says I can use it for pad stitching in tailored garments too. However I'm "not allowed" to play with it until I finish the wedding dress I'm working on.

This is a link to a written (and photo) description of using a blind hemmer that I found helpful.

thanks for all the wonderful resources. I just set up my machine that I got and I'm really impressed with it. Can't wait to sew up the drapes that I have planned for my family room. Anyhow, I eventually plan on making up a quick tutorial on how to thread the machine - it's super easy but the manual isn't that explanatory
