Question: How do you alter a skirt with a zip closure on a side seam to being a button closure?
I have my TNT pattern simplicity 4044. But (a) I'm out of zippers the right size (b) I want to do something a bit different...more 30's looking.

Attach a double sided flap to one of the zipper seams and use this for your buttonholes. Great technique you thought of and I'm sure the skirt will look great!

Thanks. :)
I did wonder about adding a facing to existing seam allowance.

Hoping to have some real and some decorative buttons just to give a little something to the pattern.

You have several options. One, go buy a zipper. Two, you can make a placket side opening which means some drafting skills. The easiest option is to make it a button front skirt. At cf add width to the cf the diameter of the button plus an 1/8" This is the fold line. Add 1/8" for turn of cloth and then the same amount you added for the extension to make the facing. If you want to clean finish your facing edge add 1/4" to sew to the interfacing. Interface from the foldline.
